YOGA
Student Training: Fixing an Ill-Fitting Wrap
January 5, 2026 · Alo Editorial · 3 MIN READ

For yoga for students, one decision matters more than the rest — the wrap. Fit behaviours, fabric weight, and the mistakes that shorten its life. Every fix here is something you can do today.
There is only one decision that matters for yoga for students, and it is the wrap. Everything after that is adjustment. Below: what to look for, what to skip, and the checks that catch a bad fit early.
Three small changes for the students
The fastest improvement is usually a fit adjustment rather than a purchase. You want to think about clothing once and then stop.
Sleeve clearance is the usual complaint. An armhole cut for a coat will crowd you in any overhead shape, so test it with both arms up.
- 01Adjust the fit before you buy anything new.
- 02Air dry instead of tumble drying.
- 03Give each piece a full day between wears.
Fit details worth checking
Run three checks before you keep anything: it has to open fully so you can shed it without breaking the flow, and the sleeves should not crowd your arms. Do all three standing and again seated, because you want to think about clothing once and then stop.
What separates a workable kit from a frustrating one here is how you handle the session in front of you. Get that right and everything after it is preference.
What the knit actually does
Two garments with the same composition can behave completely differently. What you are checking is how the cloth responds to the session in front of you, and that only shows up once you move in it.
Buy one, wear it twice, then decide about a second. Almost every fit problem is visible by the second wear, and none of them are visible on the hanger.
What to check before you buy for the students
Two pieces can look identical on the hanger and behave differently in the students. The checks below are the ones that catch it early. Sun Kissed Brown ALO Softsculpt Precision 1/4 Zip Long Sleeve is the piece we would test them against first.
- Push the sleeve to the elbow and check it stays there in a forward fold.
- The cuff should sit at the wrist without covering the hand.
- Raise both arms: a narrow armhole pulls the hem up.
Wash, dry, repeat
Do not store anything damp. Most odour problems are storage problems: you want to think about clothing once and then stop.
The right kit is the one you stop noticing halfway through.
Treat yoga for students as a small system: one reliable wrap, one removable layer, and a wash routine that does not shorten its life.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do I know if the fit is right?
- Check it through a full range of motion and again seated: It has to open fully so you can shed it without breaking the flow, and the sleeves should not crowd your arms.
- What fabric weight should I choose?
- Mid-weight for most of the year. Go lighter when the session in front of you means heat, denser when you start cold. It is the sort of difference you notice twenty minutes in, not on the hanger.
- When should I replace it?
- When the closure and the sleeve head stops holding, or the fabric no longer returns to size. Get that one thing right and most of the other decisions stop mattering.
